Statement of Financial Responsibility
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Statement of Financial Responsibility?

This statement outlines the terms and conditions of the financial responsibilities and obligations associated with attending Michigan State University. All students must read and accept MSU’s Statement of Financial Responsibility, which will be presented to each student in StuInfo.

Why is MSU requiring the statement?

The Statement of Financial Responsibility provides relevant information about MSU’s official institutional policies, provides important consumer information about electronic billing, holds, late fees, etc. and affirms a student’s understanding of financial obligations to MSU.

How often must a student accept the statement?

It will be presented once to each student and will cover all periods of enrollment.

Do other institutions do this?

Yes. It is common practice among higher education institutions across the United States.

My parents pay my tuition. Can they accept the statement?

No. While payment made by a third party is acceptable, it is the enrolled student who is ultimately responsible for agreeing to the terms and conditions of the Statement of Financial Responsibility.
